Question by lillevo21: Linux ram Cache/buffer is taking over my memory can i stop that?
I have the latest enterprise version of Redhat. I also have a test lab with the latest version of CentOS.

When i do “top” or “free” used memory is consistantly high as well as cached memory. I realize that linux caches memory for performance, but i have more then enough ram to do what i need to.

This is not a performance server/ws. So caching/buffering swapping is not necessary. I wonder if anybody knows a way that i can disable the cache??? Limit it ?

What happens is i am monitoring my machines /net-snmp and “used real memory” is always in the 90′s which triggers alerts. Reality is , the memory really isnt used its cached. This is becoming very fustrating since ive done alot of research to no avail.

Any help is better then non. Thanks.
